Heritage is more than just the preservation of buildings — it is the stories, traditions, and people that breathe life into a place. SG Cultural Series, a collection by acclaimed artist Tsuyumi Miwa, celebrates Singapore’s rich cultural heritage through art. The collection captures essence of intangible heritage and pays homage to the artisans who have preserved traditional trades despite the tides of modernization.

Presented in conjunction with the Singapore Heritage Festival, this exhibition finds a fitting home in Raffles Hotel Singapore, a landmark deeply intertwined with the nation’s history. As one of Singapore’s most iconic heritage buildings, Raffles Hotel had witness the country’s transformation — from its colonial past to its dynamic present — while retaining the timeless elegance and traditions that have made it a symbol of cultural continuity. Much like Raffles Hotel, Miwa’s collection reflects the intersection of past and present, where time-honoured traditions meet modern Singapore.

Raffles Hotel Singapore proudly continues its literary legacy with the fourth edition of the Raffles Writer’s Residency, welcoming its first-ever chef as Writer-in-Residence — Chef André Chiang. A visionary in modern gastronomy, Chef André is celebrated for his artistic culinary approach and contributions to the global dining scene. Now, he brings his storytelling to the page with his latest book, Fragments of Time.

Since 2019, the Writer’s Residency has provided a creative sanctuary for esteemed writers, following in the footsteps of Rudyard Kipling, Ernest Hemingway and Joseph Conrad. This year, we celebrate the intersection of literature and gastronomy, where storytelling unfolds through words, flavours and memories.

Fragments of Time by Chef André Chiang
Inspired by the Chinese idiom “吉光片羽”, this 200-page book weaves together culinary, cultural and historical narratives, reflecting on Singapore’s gastronomy and Raffles Hotel’s rich history. Blending heritage and innovation, Chef André explores the preservation of culinary traditions, the role of chefs today and his inspirations from the Grande Dame.

Raffles Singapore x Community Chest

Raffles Singapore and Community Chest Singapore continue our deep collaboration by launching a year-long partnership, “Shop for Good”. This marks an extension of Community Chest’s longstanding relationship to foster a spirit of giving back to communities and cultivate a strong sense of social responsibility among employees and guests. As part of the partnership, a dedicated retail space at the hotel’s retail concept store, Raffles Boutique, will showcase selected Community Chest social service agencies exhibit and sell handcrafted and specially designed merchandise made by their respective beneficiaries.

Starting from April 2024, three social agencies at a time will set up shop at a dedicated section at Raffles Boutique for three months. The merchandise on offer will follow a thematic basis each quarter, and the full proceeds will go towards the respective social service agencies as well as social enterprises under Community Chest.

This July, we are partnering with three more agencies: Metta, The Art Faculty and BizLink to showcase uniquely Singapore merchandise. Specially designed and handcrafted by the resident artists and artisans at each organisation, these products feature uniquely Singapore designs such as the signature Batik print, or familiar landmarks from our Singapore skyline.
